Triple award winner Nikola Jokic suffers a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" knee injury while the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Heat.
Jokic was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
His teammate came down on the footwear of the MVP, who promptly collapsed to the floor clutching his knee.
The 30-year-old, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the contest before incurring the setback.
The player will undergo an scan on the following day to determine the severity of the issue.
"Right away, Jokic realized something was wrong," commented Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as talented as he is. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Obviously, right now, I am more worried just about Jokic personally and the disappointment of facing something of that nature."
