The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
